This bird, a male Blackburnian warbler, was seen as depicted, singing from a perch in an American black cherry in the wooded Ramble of Central Park in NYC. The female was edited into the scene, ( she was foraging nearby). When I first saw the male so low and close I sighed, " Oh no, more inspiration; another painting to do!" But who can resist the New World warblers? I can't. So I began my process of field note collection and reference research and two seasons later I had a painting. Central park is an oasis for migrant song birds and a treasure for local birders. Go to the News/Events page for links to organizations that lead birding field trips in the New York City area.
